Design & build
Haverstick Designs worked closely with Jason Carson, freelance engineer/technical consultant from the LA area, and Vintage King Audio to create SuSu studio. Haverstick Designs handled all aspects of the acoustical design from the ground up for both sound isolation and sound quality. Jason and Jacob Schneider from Vintage King were instrumental in selecting gear as well as integration and design.
Equipment
The control center features an API1608-II console with a 16-channel sidecar, ATC monitors, as well as rack gear from API, Rupert Neve, Chandler Limited, Focusrite, and BAE among others. Headphone monitoring is the Aviom Mix320-A Personal Mixing System equipped with 10 A320 16-channel personal mixers. A wide selection of microphones includes a ’61 Neumann U67, Telefunken ELA M-251T, Neumann U87ai, Coles 4038 matched pair, AKG 414XLS matched pair, 414XL (2), Royer 121, Sennheiser MD-421 (5), and a variety of others.
The studio itself consists of a comfortable, open control room with vaulted ceilings and a beautiful view of the lake, a well-isolated drum room, and an amp room. Custom acoustical treatments were installed by Solar 2 Studios.
Recording experience
As an artist, finding the “right fit” for a studio is important. SuSuSound is not a fit for everyone. The studio layout and the quiet environment in which it exists precludes it from handling large or loud bands. For smaller ensembles or singer-songwriters, it could be a perfect fit.

While not working in the studio, a beautiful inland lake is right outside the door so you can enjoy a little time near the water, or relax on the deck to decompress between sessions.
